Problem Solving with Paper Towers

Students start the school year off by learning about the Problem Solving Process and how it can help them be successful in Computer Science.  Having a strategy for approaching problems helps students develop new insights and come up with better solutions.  This process is generally useful for solving all kinds of problems.  The four steps to the Problem Solving Process are:

  • Define the problem
  • Prepare or brainstorm solutions
  • Try your solution
  • Reflect  – did your solution make the problem better or worse?

To put their problem-solving skills into action students were challenged to work in teams and build the tallest paper tower they could using only paper.  Here are some of their creative designs.
