CSF2 – Impacts of Computing: Infrared Sensors

CSF2 - Impacts of Computing: Infrared Sensors

Janeal Tyler, Computer Science Teacher

In this unit, students will be diving deeper into understanding infrared light and how to program infrared sensors. With this new knowledge, students will predict how computational innovations that have revolutionized aspects of our culture might evolve.

At the beginning of every topic, students are STRONGLY encouraged to write down all of the vocabulary words, definitions, and key concepts found in the concept folders. These notes will help students a lot to complete assignments and tests.

Students are learning how to:

  • Illustrate ways computing systems implement logic, input, and output through hardware components.
  • Use data analysis tools and techniques to identify patterns in data representing complex systems.
  • Describe how artificial intelligence drives many software and physical systems.
  • Use and adapt classic algorithms to solve computational problems.
  • Predict how computational innovations that have revolutionized aspects of our culture might evolve

Students are learning about these things so that they can:

  • Understand the difference between the visible light spectrum and infrared.
  • Create programs that react to both visible light spectrum and infrared.
  • Program different robotic behavior based on infrared input.
  • Predict how computational innovations that have revolutionized aspects of our culture might evolve.

Students will know they are successful when they get a perfect score on the following assignments (Keep in mind they have unlimited redos):

  • IC-IS Question of the Day Discussion 10 pts Due 5/5
  • IC-IS Commit to Learning 11 pts Due 5/5
  • Make a Smart Light CFU 2 pts Due 5/5
  • Infrared Waves CFU 2 pts Due 5/5
  • Infrared Control – Sound CFU 2 pts Due 5/5
  • Infrared Control – Drive CFU 2 pts Due 5/5
  • IC-IS Make Sense of Learning 15 pts Due 5/12
  • IC-IS Practice and Rehearse OPTIONAL 8 pts Due 5/12
