CSF2 – Unit 5 Data and Analysis: Robot Hand

Janeal Tyler, Computer Science Teacher

This unit  is going to teach you how to build a glove controller with five finger flex sensors to control a robotic hand in the physical world as well as a simulated hand in Microsoft Excel.

At the beginning of every topic, students are STRONGLY encouraged to write down all of the vocabulary words, definitions, and key concepts found in the concept folders.  These notes will help students a lot to complete assignments and tests.

Check out this video for a project overview!

Students are learning how to:

  • Categorize the roles of operating system software

  • Illustrate ways computing systems implement logic, input, and output through hardware components

  • Select data collection tools and techniques to generate data sets that support a claim or communicate information.

  • Evaluate the ability of models and simulations to test and support the refinement of hypotheses.

  • Predict how computational innovations that have revolutionized aspects of our culture might evolve.

Students are learning about these things so that they can:

  • Understand what binary and circuits have to do with robotics

  • Understand how to use Micro:Bit Pins when constructing my robotic hand.

  • Evaluate the ability of of my simulations to test and refine my robotic hand and glove.

  • Better understand how computational innovations revolutionized aspects of our culture and how they might evolve.

Students will know they are successful when they get a perfect score on the following assignments (Keep in mind they have unlimited redos):

This project may take longer than anticipated depending on what engineering problems may arise.  If that is the case the due dates for the overall project will be extended.
